Native to South America, Staurogyne repens grows relatively low compared with many traditional stem plants. With good lighting and regular trimming, the stems develop side shoots and form dense groups that work beautifully around rocks, driftwood, and other focal points within an aquascape.

One of the best uses for Staurogyne repens is creating a natural transition between very low foreground plants and taller midground vegetation. Plant small groups around the base of stones or driftwood to soften hard edges and give the aquascape a more mature, established appearance.
It can also be planted in larger groups to create a low, bushy area of vibrant green foliage. Its broader leaves provide excellent contrast alongside fine-textured carpeting plants and grass-like species.
As the plant becomes established, healthy stems can be trimmed and replanted directly into the substrate. New side shoots will develop from established plants, allowing a small group to gradually become much denser.
Regular trimming is particularly useful when Staurogyne repens is being used in the foreground. Removing taller shoots encourages branching and helps maintain the compact, bushy appearance that makes this species so useful in aquascaping.
