Description

Staurogyne repens Tissue Culture

Staurogyne repens Tissue Culture is a compact, vibrant green aquarium plant valued for its low-growing, bushy appearance and versatility in aquascaping. Its sturdy stems and fresh green leaves make it an excellent choice for the foreground and lower midground, particularly around rocks, driftwood, and other hardscape.

Unlike traditional carpeting plants that form a very flat lawn, Staurogyne repens develops into compact clusters of leafy growth. With regular trimming, it can be maintained relatively low and encouraged to branch, creating dense groups that provide an attractive transition between carpeting plants and taller vegetation.

Supplied as a Tissue Culture, the plant is grown under sterile laboratory conditions and arrives free from algae, snails, and other unwanted aquarium pests.

✓ Compact, Bushy & Perfect Around Hardscape Staurogyne repens creates dense groups of fresh green foliage and is particularly effective for softening transitions around rocks, driftwood, and carpeting plants.

How to Plant Tissue Culture

  • Remove the plant from the tissue culture cup.
  • Gently rinse away the nutrient gel with clean water.
  • Separate the plant mass into several smaller portions.
  • Plant the individual portions into the substrate using aquarium tweezers.
  • Space the portions slightly apart to allow room for branching and new growth.

Aquascaping with Staurogyne repens

Staurogyne repens is particularly useful for creating natural transitions between low carpeting plants and taller background vegetation. Plant small groups around the base of stones or driftwood to soften hardscape edges and create the appearance of established vegetation growing naturally throughout the layout.

For a denser foreground, plant multiple small portions relatively close together. As the plants establish and branch, they can gradually form a lush, compact mass of bright green foliage.

Aquascaper's Tip Once established, trim the tallest stems to encourage additional side shoots and bushier growth. Healthy trimmings can also be replanted into open areas to gradually expand the group.
