Description

Echinodorus ‘Rose’

Echinodorus ‘Rose’ is a classic and highly regarded sword plant known for its soft pink to rose-coloured new growth that gradually matures into warm green tones. Its balanced size and elegant leaf shape make it an excellent midground to background plant for freshwater planted aquariums and Aquascaping layouts.

Colour note: The signature pink tones are most prominent on new leaves. Stable lighting, nutrients, and a healthy root system are key to maintaining strong coloration.
Older leaves naturally transition to green as the plant matures.

Why Aquascapers Like It

  • Soft pink to rose-coloured new growth for gentle colour contrast
  • Broad yet elegant leaves that don’t overpower a layout
  • Reliable sword plant with consistent growth once established
  • Excellent focal plant without excessive size
  • Well suited for community aquariums and nature-style Aquascaping

Care & Placement

  • Placement: Midground to Background
  • Planting: Plant into substrate and keep the crown above the substrate
  • Lighting: Moderate to high for best colour development
  • CO₂: Optional, but beneficial for stronger growth and colour
  • Feeding: Heavy root feeder—nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs recommended
  • Maintenance: Remove older outer leaves as needed

Aquascaping Tips

  • Place slightly off-centre to highlight its colour without dominating the scape.
  • Pairs well with fine-leaf green stems and carpeting plants.
  • Allow room for leaf spread to show its natural form.
