Description

Rotala ceylon (Tissue Culture)

Rotala ceylon is a fine-leaf, fast-growing stem plant loved in Aquascaping for its bright, fresh green colour and soft, feathery texture. In high light and with CO₂, it can develop tighter, denser growth that looks incredible as a background or midground “bush” when trimmed regularly.

Tissue Culture Benefits: Tissue culture plants are grown in a sterile environment and arrive free of algae, pests, and snail eggs. They’re a top choice for clean Aquascaping builds and shrimp tanks.
Before planting: Rinse the plants thoroughly to remove all gel media, then separate into small clumps for faster rooting and fuller growth.

Why Aquascapers Like It

  • Fine, airy leaf texture that contrasts beautifully with broader-leaf plants
  • Trims well and can be shaped into dense bushes
  • Fast growth helps fill backgrounds and adds volume to layouts
  • Bright green tones that keep aquascapes looking crisp and fresh
  • Excellent for Dutch-style and nature-style Aquascaping

Care & Placement

  • Placement: Midground to background (depending on trimming and tank size)
  • Lighting: Moderate to high (higher light = tighter, more compact growth)
  • CO₂: Recommended for best density, colour, and stability
  • Fertilization: Regular dosing supports strong tips and prevents stalling
  • Trimming: Trim tops often to promote side shoots and create a fuller bush
  • Planting tip: Plant small groups with spacing so light reaches lower stems

How to Plant Tissue Culture (Quick Steps)

  • Remove the plant from the cup and rinse off all gel media (use aquarium water if preferred).
  • Split into many small portions (the smaller the clump, the faster it fills in).
  • Plant each portion into substrate using tweezers, spacing them slightly apart.
  • For the first 1–2 weeks, aim for stable CO₂ and consistent nutrients.
