Description

Anubias hastifolia is easy and ideal for beginners. It has striking arrow shaped leaves with longer stalks than most other Anubias. The combination of longer stalks and unique leaves gives this plant a more pronounced look when placed amidst other plants in the aquarium mid-ground. Like other Anubias-species, it is best planted in a shady spot to minimize algae growth on the leaves. Avoid covering the rhizome when planting to keep it from rotting. It can be easily fastened to driftwood or rock with fishing line, thread, or superglue gel. Herbivorous fish do not eat the very tough and robust leaves.

Natural History

It was first mentioned by Adolf Engler in 1889 and described scientifically by him in 1893. The plant grows on the banks of little streams in the forest, on rocks, or in mud. It flowers throughout the year, fruiting from September till January.

Pro Tips

Anubias can be propagated by cutting the rhizome into pieces. New growth on cut pieces will begin at one or more leaf nodes so ensure that each piece has at least 3 nodes ideally with leaves as well.
