Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow', commonly known as Narrow Leaf Java Fern, is an easy-care aquarium plant known for its long, slender green leaves and graceful growth. Its narrower foliage gives it a lighter, more detailed appearance than traditional broad-leaved Java Fern, making it an excellent addition to natural planted aquariums.
This particular nursery batch arrived smaller than the size we typically offer. Rather than waiting for the plants to grow larger, we've created a special Mini Bundle that gives aquascapers an opportunity to pick up multiple young Microsorum Narrow portions at a great value.
These are healthy young plants that simply haven't reached their usual larger nursery size yet. Once established in the aquarium, they can continue developing the characteristic long, narrow foliage Microsorum 'Narrow' is known for.
Placement: Midground to background, or attached directly to rocks and driftwood.
Lighting: Low to moderate lighting.
CO₂: Not required. Supplemental CO₂ can encourage stronger growth but is optional.
Substrate: Not required. Microsorum is an epiphyte and is best attached to aquarium hardscape with its rhizome exposed.
Fertilization: Benefits from consistent water-column fertilization.
Maintenance: Slow growing and relatively low maintenance. Older or damaged leaves can be removed near the rhizome when necessary.

Microsorum Narrow is an epiphyte, meaning it does not need to be planted into nutrient-rich substrate. Instead, the individual Mini Bundle portions can be positioned around aquarium driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape.
Secure the plants using aquarium-safe glue, thread, or fishing line until their roots naturally grip the hardscape. Because this bundle contains smaller portions, it is particularly useful for distributing Microsorum throughout several areas of an aquascape rather than concentrating all of the foliage in one location.
The smaller size of these plants can actually be useful when working with detailed hardscape. Individual portions can be positioned between stones, along smaller branches of driftwood, or throughout several areas of the aquarium where a larger established plant may be difficult to place.
Over time, the plants can develop longer, narrow leaves that soften the hardscape and create the flowing appearance Narrow Leaf Java Fern is known for.
No injected CO₂ is required. Microsorum Narrow is an excellent choice for low-tech planted aquariums and can grow successfully with appropriate lighting and consistent water-column nutrients.
Its combination of low light requirements, slow growth, and no substrate requirement makes it particularly suitable for aquarists looking for an attractive plant without demanding maintenance requirements.
