Description

Echinodorus ‘Red Mystery’

Echinodorus ‘Red Mystery’ is a striking sword plant known for its rich red to deep bronze tones and broad, slightly textured leaves. It develops into a strong visual anchor once established, making it an excellent midground to background plant for planted aquariums that benefit from bold colour and structure.

Acclimation note: As with most Echinodorus varieties, older leaves may melt or yellow after planting. This is normal. Focus on the crown and roots—healthy plants will push out new, vibrant leaves as they settle.
White roots and fresh center growth are strong indicators the plant is healthy and adapting well.

Why Aquascapers Like It

  • Deep red to bronze coloration that adds contrast among green plants
  • Broad-leaf form creates a natural focal point
  • Reliable sword plant once established
  • Great scale for medium to large aquariums
  • Works well in nature-style layouts that need colour without fine textures

Care & Placement

  • Placement: Midground to Background
  • Planting: Plant into substrate with the crown kept above the substrate
  • Lighting: Moderate to high for stronger red coloration
  • CO₂: Optional, but supports faster growth and colour consistency
  • Feeding: Heavy root feeder—nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs recommended
  • Maintenance: Remove older outer leaves as needed

Aquascaping Tips

  • Place slightly off-centre to avoid overpowering the layout.
  • Pair with fine-leaf stems or carpeting plants to balance the broad leaves.
  • Allow space for mature leaf spread—this variety looks best when not crowded.
