Rotala rotundifolia 'Reddish' (Vietnam) is a colourful freshwater stem plant prized for its narrow foliage and attractive reddish to pink-red tones. When grown under good lighting with consistent nutrients, this Rotala can develop into a dense, vibrant group that provides beautiful colour contrast against bright green aquarium plants.
Its relatively fine texture and branching growth make it especially useful in Nature Aquarium, Dutch-style, and modern planted aquascapes. Regular trimming encourages additional side shoots, allowing the plant to develop into a fuller, bushier group rather than a collection of individual stems.
Supplied as a Tissue Culture, the plant is grown under sterile laboratory conditions and arrives free from snails, algae, and unwanted pests. Each cup can be divided into multiple smaller portions and planted throughout the desired area.

For the best start, divide the tissue culture into several small portions rather than planting the entire cup as one dense clump. Individual groups will establish more evenly and receive better light and water circulation.
Rotala responds particularly well to regular trimming. When the stems reach the desired height, cut the upper portions and allow the established lower stems to produce new side shoots. The healthy tops can then be replanted alongside the original group.
Repeating this process gradually creates the dense, bushy appearance that makes Rotala species so popular in aquascaping. For a more natural composition, the group can also be trimmed into a gently sloping or rounded shape rather than maintaining every stem at the same height.
Rotala 'Reddish' is an excellent choice when an aquascape needs a strong splash of warm colour without heavy, broad foliage. Its fine texture allows it to provide colour while maintaining a light and detailed appearance.
Use it behind bright green carpeting or midground plants to create contrast, or position a carefully trimmed group near a focal point of stone or driftwood. It can also be combined with green Rotala varieties to create gradual transitions from green through orange, pink, and red tones.
