Orange Rili Shrimp are a striking colour variety of Neocaridina davidi, recognized for their vibrant orange markings contrasted by translucent or nearly clear sections of the body. The distinctive Rili pattern gives each shrimp a unique appearance and makes them especially eye-catching in planted and nano aquariums.
Like other Neocaridina shrimp, Orange Rili are peaceful, active grazers that spend much of their day exploring plants, mosses, driftwood, rocks, and substrate in search of biofilm, soft algae, microorganisms, and edible organic material.
Their manageable care requirements, small size, and ability to reproduce entirely in freshwater make Orange Rili Shrimp an excellent choice for both newer shrimp keepers and experienced aquarists looking to add a bright splash of colour to a planted aquarium.
Aquarium: A mature, fully cycled freshwater aquarium with stable water conditions is recommended.
Temperature: Approximately 18–26°C (64–79°F).
pH: Approximately 6.5–7.8.
Water: Stable freshwater with adequate mineral content to support healthy moulting.
Filtration: Gentle filtration is recommended. Sponge filters or an intake protected with a suitable pre-filter sponge are excellent choices for shrimp aquariums.
Feeding: Naturally grazes biofilm, microorganisms, algae, and organic material. Supplement with quality shrimp food when required.

Rili shrimp are selectively bred for a distinctive pattern in which areas of strong pigmentation are interrupted by translucent or nearly clear sections of the body.
With Orange Rili Shrimp, this produces a combination of vivid orange markings and transparent areas. Pattern placement and colour coverage are not identical between individuals, giving each shrimp its own appearance.
Orange Rili Shrimp thrive in established planted aquariums containing plenty of surfaces for natural grazing. Mosses, Bucephalandra, Anubias, driftwood, stone, and other textured surfaces provide areas where biofilm and microorganisms can develop.
Dense plants and mosses also provide valuable shelter for young shrimp and freshly moulted adults while creating a more natural environment for the colony.
In a mature aquarium, Orange Rili Shrimp spend much of their day grazing on naturally occurring biofilm, microorganisms, soft algae, and organic material.
Supplement with a quality shrimp food when required. Feed conservatively, particularly in smaller shrimp aquariums, as excessive uneaten food can negatively affect water quality.
Orange Rili Shrimp can reproduce entirely in freshwater. Females carry eggs beneath the abdomen until fully developed young hatch as miniature shrimp.
A mature aquarium with mosses, plants, and established biofilm provides young shrimp with both shelter and access to naturally occurring food.
Different colour varieties of Neocaridina davidi can interbreed with one another. Orange Rili can therefore breed with Cherry, Yellow, Blue, Green, Chocolate, Snowball, and other compatible Neocaridina varieties.
If maintaining the Orange Rili colour line is important, keeping them separately from other Neocaridina colour varieties is recommended. Crossbreeding can produce offspring with unpredictable colour and pattern, and future generations may not retain the desired Orange Rili appearance.
Shrimp can be sensitive to sudden changes in temperature and water chemistry. Introduce Orange Rili Shrimp to a mature, fully cycled aquarium and acclimate them gradually to their new water conditions.
Ammonia and nitrite should remain undetectable. Avoid sudden parameter changes and use caution with medications or treatments containing copper or other ingredients that may be unsafe for freshwater invertebrates.
