Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mioya' – Tissue Culture

Bring rich, natural colour and graceful foliage to your planted aquarium with Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mioya'. This beautiful Cryptocoryne variety develops elongated, gently textured leaves with an attractive mix of olive-green, bronze, and reddish-brown tones. Its warm colouring provides a striking contrast to bright green aquarium plants and complements natural aquascaping materials such as driftwood and stone.

Growing in a compact rosette, Cryptocoryne 'Mioya' is an excellent choice for the midground of a freshwater planted aquarium. As it becomes established, its leaves create a naturally layered appearance that adds depth and texture without requiring frequent trimming.

Supplied in a convenient tissue culture cup, this plant is cultivated under sterile laboratory conditions and is free from unwanted snails, algae, and other common aquarium pests at the time of production. Each cup contains multiple plantlets that can be separated and planted individually to establish a natural-looking grouping.

Warm Colour & Natural Texture With its bronze-to-reddish foliage and graceful rosette growth, Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mioya' adds warmth, depth, and natural contrast to planted aquariums. Its tissue culture format allows you to establish multiple plants from a single cup.

Why Choose Cryptocoryne 'Mioya'?

  • Beautiful bronze and reddish-brown foliage: Adds warm colour and contrast among green aquarium plants.
  • Attractive rosette growth: Develops a naturally layered cluster of leaves that adds depth to your aquascape.
  • Ideal for the midground: Works beautifully around rocks, driftwood, and other planted aquarium features.
  • Adaptable aquarium plant: Can be grown in a range of established freshwater planted aquarium setups.
  • Low-maintenance once established: Its relatively slow, steady growth reduces the need for frequent trimming.
  • Laboratory-grown tissue culture: Supplied without the unwanted snails, algae, or common aquarium pests that can accompany conventionally grown plants.
  • Multiple plantlets per cup: Separate and plant individual portions to create a fuller grouping over time.

Aquarium Care & Growing Conditions

Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mioya' is a relatively undemanding aquarium plant that performs well in stable, established freshwater aquariums. It appreciates a nutrient-rich substrate and consistent growing conditions. Like many Cryptocoryne varieties, it may take time to adjust after planting, but established plants can develop into attractive, long-lasting rosettes.

Difficulty: Easy

Lighting: Low to medium. Leaf colour and growth may vary with light intensity and other aquarium conditions.

COâ‚‚: Not required. Supplemental COâ‚‚ may encourage stronger growth in a well-balanced planted aquarium.

Substrate: A nutrient-rich planted aquarium substrate is beneficial. Root tabs can provide additional nutrients when growing in an inert substrate.

Temperature: Approximately 22–28°C.

Placement: Midground; may also be used toward the foreground in larger aquariums, depending on its mature size.

Growth Rate: Slow to moderate once established.

How to Plant Your Tissue Culture

Cryptocoryne 'Mioya' tissue culture arrives in a sealed cup containing small, laboratory-grown plantlets. Proper preparation and planting will help the plants establish in your aquarium.

  1. Remove the plants: Carefully take the plant mass out of the tissue culture cup.
  2. Rinse away the gel: Gently rinse the roots and leaves with clean, lukewarm water until the nutrient gel has been removed.
  3. Divide into portions: Carefully separate the plant mass into smaller groups, keeping roots attached wherever possible.
  4. Plant into the substrate: Use aquarium tweezers to insert the roots into your substrate while keeping the crown, where the leaves meet the roots, above the substrate surface.
  5. Allow time to establish: Give the plantlets time to develop new submerged growth. Avoid repeatedly moving them once planted.
A Note About Cryptocoryne Melt Cryptocoryne plants may shed some or all of their existing leaves when introduced to a new aquarium. This response, commonly called Cryptocoryne melt, can occur as the plant adjusts to different water parameters, lighting, and submerged growing conditions. If the roots and crown remain healthy, new leaves can develop as the plant establishes. Avoid disturbing the roots unnecessarily during this transition.

Aquascaping with Cryptocoryne 'Mioya'

The warm tones and gently textured foliage of Cryptocoryne 'Mioya' make it a versatile addition to nature-style aquascapes. Plant it in small groups around the base of driftwood or stone to soften hardscape transitions and introduce contrast against bright green foreground plants.

Its rosette form also works well alongside fine-leaved stem plants and mosses, creating a layered composition with varied leaf shapes. For a natural appearance, space individual plantlets apart and allow them to fill in as they grow.
