Limnobium laevigatum, commonly known as Amazon Frogbit, is a floating aquatic plant native to Central and South America. It is particularly suitable for open aquariums, forming a decorative layer on the water surface. The plant features small, round leaves, typically 1-5 cm in size, and produces long, fine roots that dangle into the water, providing excellent shelter for surface-dwelling fish such as gouramis. In nutrient-rich environments with adequate lighting, Amazon Frogbit can develop larger leaves, up to 15 cm wide, and may produce new leaves above the water surface. Regular thinning may be necessary to ensure sufficient light reaches submerged plants below.
